(27 Feb 2025) Implenomics got to meet up in-person in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of February to discuss project work. We also found time for a great walk through Piedmont Park taking advantage of Atlanta’s (early-to-us) spring weather.
(18-20 Nov 2024) Sujha and Sonja attended the National Cancer Institute’s 2nd Annual Consortium Meeting on Implementation Science for Cancer Control in People Living with HIV in LMICs in Gaborone, Botswana from November 18-20, 2024. We went to the meeting with our partners from Population Councial and the Clinical and Radiation Oncology Society of Zambia (ZASCRO). For this project we also partner with the Zambian Ministry of Health and RTI International. During the meeting Sujha led the Cross-Consortium Initiative session on Equity and Research Collaboration. She will also be co-leading this group for the consortium.
The objective of our project, Adolescents and Young Adults with HIV Role-based Responsibilities for Oncology-focused Workforce (ARROW), is to develop and test an integrated model of cancer control for AYAHIV that can be delivered as an embedded component in existing HIV treatment programs in primary care facilities and linked with specialist treatment in cancer centers. We will use theory-informed multilevel strategies to create the ARROW program. The goal is to increase uptake of services among AYAHIV (aged 15-39) for early diagnosis and improve compliance with cancer treatment for Kaposi sarcoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and cervical cancer.
(10/24/2024) Sujha was a speaker for the National Cancer Institute’s webinar on Increasing Scale-Up Research in Cancer Control using our project, Adolescents and Young Adults with HIV Role-based Responsibilities for Oncology-focused Workforce (ARROW), as a case study.
(9/20/2024) Implenomics, together with academic institutions in India, the Kerala Directorate of Health and RTI International, have been awarded a grant from the National Cancer Institute. Funding from the grant will be used to create mobile apps for use in India that connect patients in the community and providers in primary care facilities with screening support staff at tertiary medical colleges. This award builds on previous work where we developed a mobile application (M-OncoED) to educate physicians in India on cervical, breast and oral cancer risk factors, symptoms and screening. To the right is a picture of one of the app’s screens for breast cancer, and our findings can be found here: nih.gov.
Funding from the current grant will be used to develop a platform named the Integrated Cancer Awareness Network (ICAN). ICAN will expand upon the existing app to create mobile apps for use in India that connect patients in the community and providers in primary care facilities with screening support staff at tertiary medical colleges. The framework is to the right.
(19 Aug 2024) Implenomics hosted a colorectal cancer screening forum with our collaborators from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. We discussed the state of colorectal cancer screening in the Commonwealth, initiatives to promote CRC screening as well as cancer disparities and data modernization initiatives.
After the meeting, the Implenomics team walked through town and along the Freedom Trail.
(January 2024) We have multiple projects that work towards achieving the objective of eliminating cervical cancer in all countries by 2030. The ultimate goal of our projects is to develop the evidence base to eliminate cervical cancer by scaling-up prevention, early diagnosis and treatment services. Towards that end, Implenomics is developing a microsimulation model to assess real-world impacts of implementing vaccination and screening to support evidence-based policy decision making. We are also working on a CDC project to identify best approaches to increase cervical cancer screening in the US. Globally, we are implementing studies to enhance cervical cancer prevention and screening in Zambia, Kenya and India.
(11-13 Dec 2023) We were thrilled to learn that we were awarded one (of 5) of the best abstracts of the year at the 16th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation (D+I) for: Subramanian S, Tangka F, Hoover S. Developing the business case of implementing evidence-based interventions to improve colorectal cancer screening uptake: Overview of methodology used in CDC’s Colorectal Cancer Control Program.
(22 Oct 2023) Implenomics supports cancer surveillance data modernization efforts Co-authors from Implenomics, the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International, recently published a paper in which they developed a framework for guiding data modernization initiatives (DMI) among cancer registries and electronic reporting. Improving how cancer registries collect, process and report cancer cases and data will help to improve cancer surveillance and, subsequently, health outcomes of cancer patients. The expectation is that this framework can be used to evaluate DMI with other chronic diseases.
The team will continue its work in a new contract by assessing costs related to DMI activities and obtaining supplemental quality measures to answer questions related to changes in resource use because of DMI, barriers and facilitators implementing DMI, and benefits in DMI’s adoption and scale-up. Additional information on the CDC’s DMI can be found here.
