Co-authors from Implenomics, the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International, recently published a paper in which they developed a framework for guiding data modernization initiatives (DMI) among cancer registries and electronic reporting. Improving how cancer registries collect, process and report cancer cases and data will help to improve cancer surveillance and, subsequently, health outcomes of cancer patients. The expectation is that this framework can be used to evaluate DMI with other chronic diseases.
The team will continue its work in a new contract by assessing costs related to DMI activities and obtaining supplemental quality measures to answer questions related to changes in resource use because of DMI, barriers and facilitators implementing DMI, and benefits in DMI’s adoption and scale-up.
Additional information on the CDC’s DMI can be found at this link.
